Arts of Engagement Pre-Conference Workshop May 20

Join Dr. Sarah Wiebe and I for The Arts of Engagement Pre-Conference Workshop at the University of Victoria on May 20th 2014, in conjunction with the CUVIC 2014 conference, Beyond Engagement: Integration Innovation and Impact. This interdisciplinary workshop, sponsored by Community-Based Research Canada, will bring together emerging scholars and experienced practitioners in community-university engagement to present, discuss and share the promises and challenges of this approach to scholarship. The workshop will draw from experts versed in arts-based, visual and participatory research methods to provide a reflective and interactive space for emerging and established scholars.

Emerging scholars will also have the opportunity to work with the workshop convenors on a project integrating social media, photography and film throughout the conference. On the last day of the conference, this will culminate in a visual presentation (a short film or slide show) for all conference participants on the theme of: “What does community engagement mean?” Participants will have access to the Community-Based Research Laboratory throughout the conference to work on the project and will have opportunity to conduct interviews with conference participants.

Applicants for the Pre-Conference Workshop should be senior undergraduate students, graduate students or faculty members interested in and experienced with community-engaged scholarship. Applications should indicate existing involvement or interest in research that seeks to make a positive impact in communities locally, nationally and globally.

As participation is limited, applications should be submitted by March 31st  2014 to artsofengagement@gmail.com. You will be notified of your acceptance no later than April 15th 2014.
